The most SUPERman

Christopher Reeve

As a kid the first time I saw Christopher Reeve take to the sky I was mesmerized. The slogan that sold people on it was "You will believe a man can fly". Understatement, the magic in that movie is undeniable and it wasn't just the flight, it was Reeve's performance, he was utterly believable. I still get chills when after telling Lois "I'm a friend" he flew straight up taking time to look down and wave.. he waved!! That moment may seem small but that nuance informed that character. Lois says near the end "Superman cares about everybody". That is what you believe about that superman and that is why he's the most super man.

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill had big shoes to fill. There had been many different actors to don the familiar red cape and blue tights since Reeve and each one had brought a little something to the role. None of them gave me that moment of magic. The flights were technically perfect, computer graphics allowed them to soar at unbelievable speeds at impossible angles. You would think these advancements would help create that feeling but sadly no. Man of steel's Superman was salvaged by Cavill's subtlety in his performance. The way he looked at Lois in the Kryptonian ship to assure her he would take care of her, that nuance informed his character, Cavill gets Superman.
